THE EFFECT OF E-LIBRARY ON STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA TERTIARY

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine the effect of e-library on students academic performance in Nigeria tertiary using Universities in Ogun State as case studies. Specifically, the study was aimed at finding out the type of library students currently use in their Universities, the extent the adoption of e-library services by the University has helped the students and the problems students faced while using e-library. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 684 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the type of library students currently use in their Universities is e-library. The findings also revealed that the extent the adoption of e-library services by the University has helped the students in a high extent. The findings further revealed that finance, poor maintenance culture, outdated materials and lack of data subscription are among the problems students faced while using e-library. The study recommend that aggressive user education and computerization of the library as well as acquisition of current information resources for proper and effective services to aid smooth learning and teaching process, and enhance students’ academic performance. More so, government to put in place policies and strategies that will enable the libraries in Nigeria to achieve the objectives of virtual library.
